Homemade Salsa Dip

Homemade Salsa Dip

“This homemade salsa is so perfect served with tortilla chips or as a dip over your favorite Mexican food like tacos, burritos, taquitos, and quesadillas among others. The best party food partner around.”

Fresh tomatoes make the best homemade salsa recipe especially when you use nicely ripened in-season tomatoes. This recipe has a perfect blend of tanginess and sweetness that comes naturally from tomatoes. It doesn’t taste like it came from a can and is perfectly bright, thanks to the fresh lime juice. Cilantro and a hint of chili powder and ground cumin create a classic Mexican flavor.

Ingredients to make a homemade salsa

Fresh tomatoes – use the nice and red ones, so your salsa will have a natural sweet blend.

Canned chopped tomatoes – this gives your salsa a better consistency. You can use plain canned chopped tomatoes, canned tomatoes with green chilies, or canned fire-roasted tomatoes. They all work great, just use what is available.

Onion – red onion or any onion will do.

Fresh cilantro – cilantro enhances the flavor, don’t take this out.

Garlic – it may seem small but garlic packs a flavorful punch. Use only fresh garlic here for best flavor.

Sugar – just a little to balance the acidity of the tomatoes and lime.

Fresh lime juice – this really brightens up the salsa.

Cayenne powder – this adds a nice spice in the salsa. If you don’t like heat you can replace it with 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper, or omit.

Chili powder and cumin –they’re a nice addition if you have them on hand.

Salt and pepper – the salsa would taste flat without the salt and the pepper.

How to make the salsa

It is so easy to make this salsa.

You can roughly chop the vegetables and combine all the ingredients in a food processor. Pulse until finely chopped but not pureed. You want to have some texture in your salsa.

In case you don’t have a food processor, you can also use a blender. Or you can finely chop up the vegetables by hand then stir everything together in a bowl.

How Long Will the Salsa Last

This salsa should last for about a week if refrigerated and stored in a sealed container.

For a tastier and more refreshing homemade salsa chill it first. It also tastes better the second day.

Try pairing this homemade salsa in your favorite Mexican food meal or party and see the difference. Happy tummy!
