Homemade Guacamole Dip

“Simple and homemade guacamole dip that uses fresh ingredients; ripe avocados, jalapeno, onion, chopped tomato, fresh lime juice, cilantro, and salt. Serve it as a dip at your next party or make it as a side dish in your low card diet.”

This homemade guacamole dip recipe takes avocado center stage. And who doesn’t love avocados! They’re nutritious and contain more potassium than bananas. If you are on a diet, avocado is one of the recommended fruit as it also contains heart-healthy monounsaturated fatty acids and high in fiber.

Origin Of The Word Guacamole

The word “guacamole”, and the dip, are both originally from Mexico, where avocados have been cultivated for thousands of years. Guacamole is a Spanish word that’s based on the Aztec language Nahuatl’s ahuaca-molli, a combination of ahuacatl (avocado) and molli (sauce).

Ingredients For Simple Guacamole

All you really need to make guacamole is ripe avocados and salt. Then a splash of acidity form the lime or lemon juice, this will help to balance the richness of the avocado. Then if you desired, add chopped onion, tomato, cilantro, and some chiles.

Ultimate Guacamole Tip

The ultimate tip in making perfect guacamole is using avocados that are just the right amount of ripeness. Not ripe enough and the avocado will be hard and tasteless. Too ripe and the taste will be off.

You can check if an avocado is ripe by gently pressing the outside. If it didn’t create a slight dent then the avocado is not ripe yet and will not taste good. If it dents too much, the avocado may be past ripe and not also good. In this case, taste test first before using.

Other Ways To Use Guacamole

Beyond a party dip, this guacamole can be scooped on top of nachos and also makes an excellent topping or side for quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, grilled salmon, or oven-baked chicken.

How To Store Guacamole

Like apples, avocados start to oxidize and turn brown once they’ve been cut and exposed to air. The lime juice helps to slow this process, but it’s unavoidable that leftover guacamole will eventually start to brown. If you store the guacamole properly, you can easily make it a few hours ahead if you are preparing for a party.

The trick to keeping guacamole green is to make sure air doesn’t touch it! Transfer it to a container or cover it with plastic wrap. Make sure any exposed surface of the guacamole is touching the plastic wrap, not air. This will keep the amount of browning to a minimum. You can store the guacamole in the fridge this way for up to 3 days.

Brighten up your meal party with addition of guacamole at your table. Happy tummy!
