Grammarly: A Useful Writing Tool for Bloggers

I grew up in the Philippines where the first language is tagalog. While English is a subject that was taught at school, I sometimes find it hard to communicate using the language.
Although I must say that I somehow got an average grade in English but there are a lot of things to learn in order to improve my grammar, punctuation and tenses when writing. Sometimes it confuses me, hahaha.
When I started blogging in 2020, I know that I can compose articles but I need someone to proofread my posts. Why? Because I want confirmation that my ideas or thoughts are communicated well to my audience. There are times that I elaborate more when I need to be concise or vice versa. Also, proofreading can help in pin-pointing my spelling and grammar as well as to where to properly place the punctuations.
I came across Grammarly while watching videos on YouTube. After some reading and digging from the internet I decided to give it a try since it is “free”. I want to see if it could help me improve my writing skills. So far, I can say that Grammarly is a must-have tool for any blogger.
WHAT IS GRAMMARLY
Grammarly is a free browser extension that “proofreads” any online writing you make, such as on your blog, Facebook or email. It will notify you when there are issues and even offer suggestions on how to correct them.
They are usually correct in pointing out my mistake, with the few “fails” of course, for words that aren’t in their dictionary, such as a product name or tagalog words. But nevertheless, it is such a great tool to gauge how well your sentences are constructed.
Grammarly’s free plan tests over 150 common grammar errors, including spelling. It looks for things like subject-verb agreement and even double-checks if you’re using the correct spelling of a word with several spellings. It will also propose synonyms for commonly used words to assist you improve your writing.
Grammarly is quite simple to use. When you enter a sentence, it will highlight potential errors, and a red line appears below the text to alert you.
When you click on the word, a pop-up window emerges that explains the errors in greater detail.
Yes, Grammarly correctly identified my mistakes, grammar or spelling and even providing suggestions on words that needs emphasis. By clicking on each individual red line, you may simply rectify what’s wrong.
You’ll see a new box appear, where you can utilize Grammarly’s suggestions to fix your mistake. You can also hit the “ignore” option if you think the tool is providing you bad suggestions. Another great feature is that it can identify how your text sounds to your audience.

To be honest, I am perfectly happy with the free version! But just in case you need an upgrade, below is the side-by-side cost comparison:
Grammarly’s premium edition would be a no-brainer for me if I were a student. But I’m sure most of us can get by with the free version for blogging.

What is plagiarism? Plagiarism is when you present someone else’s work or ideas as your own, with or without their permission, by incorporating it into your work without giving them full credit.
The plagiarism checker on Grammarly detects plagiarism in your content as well as other writing faults. Plagiarism can be detected by Grammarly’s plagiarism checker on billions of web pages as well as in ProQuest’s academic databases.
If your work contains duplicate content, Grammarly’s free plagiarism check will notify you. The plagiarism checker flags portions that require citations and provides you with the tools needed to correctly attribute your sources.

Grammarly is, in my opinion, a must-have tool for all bloggers. Regardless of your writing abilities, this tool will enhance your writing skills.
