Bread Pudding

Bread Pudding

This bread pudding recipe is easy to make with just few simple ingredients and making good use of your left-over bread. You and your family will definitely love it.

Bread pudding is so popular that most countries have their own version of this recipe. The best thing about this dessert is that it uses left-over bread.  I adapt the principle that food should not go to waste, so this is another recipe that is perfect for me.

Bread is the key ingredient

The main ingredient of this pudding recipe is bread, of course. Any type of bread will do. I don’t want to be specific here but as long as the bread is near to its expiry date, then it’s a good idea to use it before it spoils.

This recipe is pretty straight forward, no need to knead or proof. You just have to cut/ break the bread into pieces and sprinkle the butter over the bread. Next is mixing all remaining ingredients together and pour it into the bread.  Bake for 45-50 minutes and the outcome is a delicious bread pudding you ever tasted. To add sweetness and flavor to the pudding, it is recommended to add spices like cinnamon powder and vanilla essence/ extract.

My new bread habit

Just a flashback while I am writing this post. I remembered one time that our brethren collected all the remaining bread during one of our church event. I still recalled her saying that she will make those breads as pudding. At that time, I haven’t eaten a home-made bread pudding. So I wonder what that tastes like.

Now I never imagined that I could make a delicious bread pudding using left-over bread that is taken for granted during a gathering.  We usually order KFC for a simple gathering in the office. However, I myself am not really a fan of buns. So there were at least 2 plastics (6 pieces) of left-over bread and no one likes to eat them, poor thing! So I just took them all and told my colleagues that I would make a pudding out of these breads. Same scenario as what my brethren said, right. This bread pudding use simple ingredients and are available at my kitchen. The next morning, I’m bringing the yummy bread pudding I’ve ever tasted in my life (as this is the first time eating it, hahaha) and share with the rest of my colleagues.

We usually buy bread every week and occasionally there are left-overs. So whenever we have left-overs, I make it a point to make this bread pudding. This is not only gives us a new and different taste in the bread routine but it’s also a good cost saver. By the way, this pudding is consumed by us in just one seating. My family loves it and requests it every time we have supply of bread.

So the next time you have stale bread in your pantry, try this recipe and you will enjoy every bite of it. Happy tummy!

Notes

  • I used raisins to add a little sweetness and flavor to the pudding but it’s totally up to you to leave it out.
  • To make a healthier version of pudding, use low-fat or skimmed milk. You can lessen the sugar to make it less sweet or use brown sugar instead of white.
